Tuesday, October 26, 2004 They say that bad news usually comes in threes. Well, I guess that means that some good news is headed my way. Let's see, work has been really bad for the past month. I returned to single status a couple of weeks ago. And my mother's sister died Saturday night after battling stage IV cancer for almost a year (she had beaten stage III cancer a couple years ago). Just a very strange time for me right now. A few months ago I was complaining about being stuck in a rut, and now it seems that everything that can go wrong is going wrong. But, at least over the past couple of days, work has settled down a little, so maybe this is an omen of things to come. In the immortal words of Journey, "The wheel in the sky keeps on turning..." How you might ask? Well, apparently, the outcome of their last homegame before the election predicts the winner. If they win that game, the incumbant party will win the election. If they lose, the challenging party will take office. Gee, I wonder how many people will become Packer fans for a day in the hopes that Washington loses it's last home game on Halloween. Check out the link for the evidence. What a strange coincidence eh? *found over at Attu sees all Posted 9:31 AM by MZ (0) comments Wednesday, October 06, 2004 Romanization #2: TABI NO TOCHUUI think I'm starting to get the hang of this romanizing stuff. Posted 1:06 PM by MZ (0) comments Tuesday, October 05, 2004 You know, I have some of the coolest friends. I may not always show my appreciation for them, but I am really glad that I have such good friends. As you may or may not know, the past week has been a little, um, trying for me, and although I didn't really show it, some of my friends picked up on it. And each of them, in their own little ways, have demonstrated that they are there for me. I had a friend offer to get drunk with me last week. Another friend told me a couple of days ago that although I'm not pissed off by the situation, she is fighting mad. I had a third friend aim me yesterday, and although I spent a lot of that time helping him with his paper, he still was there for me to vent all my frustrations. This same friend called me last night after his classes to shoot the breeze and see if I was ok. Another friend emailed me yesterday and we ended up talking about it back and forth for a while. And, finally, today I engaged in a very silly conversation over aim with yet another friend. I'm not sure if I will ever be able to really tell all of you how much I appreciate having you all in my life. I feel blessed, and I feel loved, and I wouldn't trade any of you for another group of friends. Well, unless they were all women, and hot, and wanted to have sex constantly. But only in that one case. :) Seriously, thanks everyone for being there. Don't worry, the cynical Mark is already starting to fade away, and Happy-go-Lucky Mark is coming in from the cold. Posted 3:30 PM by MZ (2) comments Oh, another fitting song just came up on my iPod: by Tommy Shaw (performed by Styx) I used to like to walk the straight and narrow line I used to think that everything was fine Sometimes I'd like to sit and gaze for days through sleepless dreams All alone and trapped in time All alone and trapped in time I wonder what tomorrow has in mind for me Or am I even in it's mind at all Perhaps I'll get a chance to look ahead and see Soon as I find myself a crystal ball Soon as I find myself a crystal ball Tell me, tell me where I'm going I don't know where I've been Tell me, tell me, won't you tell me And then tell me again My heart is breaking, my body's aching And I don't know where to go Tell me, tell me, won't you tell me I've just got to know Crystal ball There's so many things I need to know Crystal ball There's so many things I've got to know Crystal ball ["extra verse" used occasionally live] If you should see me walking Through your dreams at night Would you please direct me Where I ought to be I've been looking for a crystal ball To shed the light To find a future in me... To find a future in me... Crystal ball There's so many things I need to know Crystal ball There's so many things I've got to know Crystal ball Posted 10:26 AM by MZ (0) comments More lyric fun: Coasters Oh, Red went and bought himself a monkey Got him from a pawn shop broker Taught that monkey how to guzzle beer And he taught him out to play stud poker Last night when they were gambling in the kitchen The monkey he was taking a beating The monkey said Red, "I'm going to shoot you dead Because I know that well, you been a cheating." Well, run Red run, because he's got your gun And he's aiming it at your head. Run Red run, because he's got your gun, And he's aiming it at your head. You better get up and wail, You better move your tail before he fills it full of lead. Oh, Red jumped up and started to move like a P80-Saber Jet. He zoomed around the corner, and he disappeared And everybody started to stare. The race was on, you know the chase was on And Red he was all shook up But, let me tell you sport, don't sell that monkey short, Because he's a travelling son of a gun. Well, run Red run, because he's got your gun And he's aiming it at your head. Run Red run, because he's got your gun, And he's aiming it at your head. You better get up and wail, You better move your tail before he fills it full of lead. Monkey trapped Red in a parking alot. Down along the Avenue, Monkey said, "Red, you've made a man out of me, Now I'm going to make a monkey out of you. Give me your car keys, give me your wallet Give it to me here, or I'll shoot Going to put on your brand new Stetson hat And go to town in your new brown suit." Well, run Red run, because he's got your gun And he's aiming it at your head. Run Red run, because he's got your gun, And he's aiming it at your head. You better get up and wail, You better move your tail before he fills it full of lead. For some ironic reason, I just feel that this song fits in well with this week so far. Oh, and it came up on my iPod and actually made me laugh, which i guess is s good thing. Posted 10:20 AM by MZ (0) comments Monday, October 04, 2004 Lyric of the moment: by Papas Fritas Don't lie when I ask how you're feeling I can read your mind Second thoughts have come across so clear In your eyes Outside, in the car, in the kitchen There's nothing left to say Eternity gets a little shorter everyday And for a while We couldn't pretend But no denial Could start things over again The road goes on forever The days fade into the night We're not walking together And now I'm feeling alright Forget all the things that I told you Whispers in the dark It's all in vain 'cause everything we had just fell apart Three weeks seems so long when there's nothing to do Lookin' up at the sky and it's finally blue High time I threw away that shoebox full of thoughts of you Try not to rewind To the first time Like it's sometime yesterday Draw the blinds Let the sunshine find a way The road goes on forever The days fade into the night We're not walking together And now I'm feeling alright So the party's over It's time to move it along So don't look over you're shoulder Cause I'll already be gone And for a while We couldn't pretend but no denial Could start things over again And I'll be gone And I'll be gone And I'll be gone And I'll be gone Posted 10:51 AM by MZ (0) comments Well, I finished my first romanization of Japanese lyrics. I picked Yoru wo Kakeru by Spitz because there really isn't much information in English about the band, and I really like the song and wanted to be able to sing along with it. As most of you already know, I really can only read Hiragana and Katakana, so romanizing Japanse lyrics is especially hard with all the kanji characters. So, it feels good to accomplish something like this. Plus it was a good diversion from everything that happened last week. So, here it is: YORU WO KAKERU Posted 10:46 AM by MZ (1) comments
